About the store
I have been fortunate to serve in a variety of educational settings, including Manatee County Schools in Florida and Cabarrus and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in North Carolina. In each role, I’ve demonstrated leadership by mentoring college students and new teachers, serving on school safety and improvement teams, and contributing to curriculum development. I’ve taught diverse groups of students, including those with Individualized Education Plans through inclusion models. Before entering education, I served in the United States Marine Corps, where I supervised operations, trained Marines, and conducted investigations. The leadership and organizational skills I gained during that time continue to support my work in the classroom today.

Seashell Beginning of the Year Poem for Staff and Students

The Seashell Poem is a heartfelt and reflective resource designed to help educators connect emotionally with their students at the beginning of the school year. It features two beautifully written poems, one for educators and one for students, that use the metaphor of a seashell to symbolize the unique nature, fragility, and inner beauty of each child in the classroom.

Experience

Teaching style

My teaching style centers on creating a respectful, inclusive, and academically challenging environment. I believe that students thrive when they feel safe, valued, and supported. I differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs of all learners and use data to inform my decisions and drive student growth. I incorporate rigor and relevance into my lessons and encourage critical thinking and problem-solving. I’ve been trained in Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), which helps me foster a calm, encouraging classroom climate where every child can succeed.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I’ve been honored to receive several recognitions throughout my career, including being named Teacher of the Year in 2015 at W.R. Odell Elementary and again in both 2023 and 2024 at B.D. Gullett Elementary. I’ve completed leadership training through the Cabarrus County Schools Leadership Cohort and earned my Gifted Local Endorsement for Educators. I’ve also served as a Teacher Ambassador for the Institute of Emerging Issues, evaluated state textbooks, and contributed to district curriculum mapping. These experiences have enriched my perspective and reaffirmed my commitment to educational excellence.

My own education history

I hold a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education, which I completed in 2013. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Florida Atlantic University in 2009 and an Associate of Arts in Elementary Education from Broward College in 2007. My education has given me both the theoretical foundation and practical tools to lead effectively in today’s classrooms.

Additional biographical information

My journey as an educator has been deeply influenced by my time in the United States Marine Corps, where I developed strong leadership, discipline, and problem-solving skills. I’m passionate about building relationships within my school and community, and I work hard to ensure that every student feels seen and supported. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with family and staying involved in school activities—from coaching to mentoring. I see teaching not just as a job, but as a lifelong calling to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children.
