Are you from Pittsburgh? It's fun to share part of your home culture with students when you have time to play! Each slide gives a slang word from Pittsburgh (pittsburghese), a sentence, and then the answer to what it means. Can easily just play the slides along with the students as it is ready to go for use!

Remember the game show Password? Students will pick a word from a hat/bowl from the list provided (link on the last slide). They must give their partner one word clue to get them to say the word they chose. There is a video clip in the beginning to show you how to play and as example. Something simple I do before teaching waves -- get them to see similarities and differences in different types of waves in their lives (hair, ocean, heat, drawn, light, hand wave, etc.) and define. I usually have kids write on the board or something for examples. Something students could easily do as they come in the room before you start talking about waves.
