7up Sentence Writing Activity

I have taken the 7up lesson plan and adapted it as my own to help my students expand their writing and build better sentences. I am including 2 powerpoint presentations- each with introductions about what 7up sentences are, expectations, example sentences, examples to do as a group, and each powerpoint has 20 picture sentence writing prompts. Here's how I like to do the lesson- you of course are your own person and can adapt this in any way that would work for your students. Traditionally, wit

This short quiz asks students to identify the 6 parts of a story- Exposition, Conflict, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action and Resolution. My students are really into reading Guinness World Records books- I've come up with a way to have them read these and get some learning out of it at the same time! This is one of my favorite "punt" activities- where I can use it at any time and it's easy to pull together. It's also a great activity to leave for a substitute! If you don't have World Record books- they are easy to find at your local thrift store for super cheap. I have books all the way back to the year 2000- it doesn't matter wh

This is a great mini-lesson for identifying and defining Literary Elements. The lesson includes a powerpoint that you can print out, or present to students. Each literary element is defined- Character, Setting, Theme, Flashback, Allusion, Symbolism, Conflict, Foreshadowing, Tone, Point of View, Figurative Language and Resolution. Examples are also given for each. I have also included a reference page with the definitions students can take notes on- writing the definitions and an example of each

I have made a big list of journal writing prompts for my students. Some of them like to write independently in their journal on a daily basis, but struggle to come up with with ideas to write about. Each of my students have a copy of this they keep in their journal so they can pull ideas from it and create some awesome journal entries!

Audiobook Reading Log

If you are using audiobooks in the classroom- this is a must have! It's always hard to keep track of where you are in audiobooks- on Kindles or using Audible, Overdrive, etc. I use this audio tracker sheet for kids to keep track of where they left off on their devices so they can find their spot easily- with audiobooks there is no such thing as bookmarks!
