About the store
I am currently a 3rd grade classroom teacher, but was previously a special education teacher for 16 years. I have a strong foundation in reading and phonics instruction, as well as working with students with autism. Literacy is my passion and my goal is to make my students love reading! I firmly believe you are never too old to be read to, and picture books and interactive read alouds should be part of daily instruction in elementary school. I've served as the PBIS Co-Chair for my school for the past 5 years.

About the store

Experience

I am currently a 3rd grade classroom teacher, but was previously a special education teacher for 16 years. I have a strong foundation in reading and phonics instruction, as well as working with students with autism. Literacy is my passion and my goal is to make my students love reading! I firmly believe you are never too old to be read to, and picture books and interactive read alouds should be part of daily instruction in elementary school. I've served as the PBIS Co-Chair for my school for the past 5 years.

Teaching style

I'm an advocate for PBIS in my school and classroom. Children deserve recognition and positive feedback is necessary. Connection and relationship building are key to success as a teacher and essential for student engagement. I love to integrate reading and read alouds throughout the day. Small group instruction and direct instruction in phonics is a hallmark. I love integrating technology when possible.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I won a $2,500 grant to purchase ipads for my classroom.

My own education history

I have a degree in Elementary and Special Education with minors in theater and psychology from Syracuse University. Go Orange! I also received my MEd in Educational Policy Studies from The University of Virginia.

Additional biographical information

I am an avid reader and lifelong learner. I enjoy traveling, visiting historical sights and museums, and spending time with my husband and son. I've visited over 30 countries! In my younger days, I completed 3 Ironman triathlons, and still enjoy riding my bike and mountain biking. My happy place is on the beach.
