This Enzyme Lab WS allows students to evaluate the impact of the enzyme catalase on hydrogen peroxide. The lab has already been done, the data and graph are provided. The students have to analyze what happened and answer several reflection questions.
Great way to work in additional enzyme/lab questions with no time or resources!
Powerpoint and handout with graphic organizer addressing:
Important scientists (in regards to cell theory)
The Cell Theory
Prokaryote vs. Eukaryote
Cell Organelles
This unit test covers all of the required Texas TEKS in regards to ecology. The questions are written to reflect the state test's rigor level.
Covers:
Abiotic/Biotic
Levels of Organization
Food Webs/Food Chains
Food Pyramids
Populations
Succession
Cycles of Matter (Nitrogen and Carbon)
It is 33 questions (most include a graphic/chart/etc)
This card sort is a great way to allow students to review the 4 major biomolecule categories. They have pictures and words that must be sorted under either Carbohydrates, Lipids, Proteins and Nucleic Acids.
I print a copy for each student and give them a bag. They cut them out and have a resource to take home and practice in preparation for the exams.
This is an excellent project for students to review the organelles of a cell. The student must take the 10 organelles listed and create an analogy to an attraction of their choice.
For example, students will often do a mall, zoo, school and compare things like-
Plasma Membrane- Ticket office/gate that surrounds the zoo
Nucleus- Main office of the zoo
Mitochondria- Restaurants at the zoo
etc.
They create a a tri-fold brochure advertising their attraction by using the analogies they create.
This is a great tool for helping students organize the 4 biomolecules in a user friendly way. I have my students place this in an interactive notebook. It also could be used as an introduction or review.
This is an excellent project to help students review the biomolecules. The students each are assigned a different biomolecule to create a commercial about. The rubric includes the concept of using a green screen to allow for background editing. These commercials can then be shared with the class as a form of review.
This foldable is great to use after you provide notes on Enzymes. It is a great tool for students to reflect on how enzymes work. It also allows them to create a tool that will be useful for studying.
This Power Point is a great intro to unit 1 of Biology. It includes information on the following:
-Important scientists and their contributions to Biology
-Characteristics of life
-Levels of organization
This quiz reviews the basics of ecology to include levels of organization, symbiosis, food chains, impacts of ecological changes and population growth. It is 8 questions that are multiple choice.
This Power Point can be used in coordination with the Biomolecules Power Point. The special proteins (enzymes) are further investigated in this Power Point and their role of catalyst is defined.
This foldable allows students to review the main concepts of each of the four biomolecules. The handout gives instructions as well as images for the students to cut out and glue into their foldable.
