My fifth graders absolutely LOVED doing this lesson. It was really easy to do and didn't take a lot of time (the lesson took about 30-45 mins). And I felt like my students really understood the difference between a Loyalist's views and a Patriot's views at the end of the lesson. The document includes a link to the Prezi presentation I made for this lesson. Plus it has all the scripted parts for the mock town council for you to print and a lesson plan explaining how I taught this lesson. It
This game is great for literacy centers! I've included a word document with all the sight words from the treasures basal reading program for first grade. Each sight word has a picture of a fly above it. There are also some blank pages with flies so you can add whichever words you want. You can also change the words if you use different high frequency words in your class. Cut out the flies with the sight words. Have the students play in pairs or a small group. Give each pair/group a set of
You can use this worksheet with a balance scale to show how 3 manipulatives and 4 manipulatives on one side of the scale is the same as 7 on the other side. They can fill this worksheet out as they try different amounts. It is great for first grade learning basic addition, partners, totals, math facts.
This is a pretend spy mission that has the students look at a map and use their knowledge about cardinal directions (North, east, south west) to find out where the spy mission is. Then they have to solve a spy mystery there using their addition skills and story problem skills. Then they have to write about their findings on some handwriting without tears lines. This is a great first grade geography/math/writing lesson.

This is a great inquiry lesson for nouns in first or second grade. Have the kids sort these pictures into three categories without telling them what the categories should be and without teaching about nouns. Then tell them about nouns and have them sort the pictures into person, place, and thing.
This document contains a link to my Prezi presentation that teaches math through the story of Brian Poppleton, a big wave world surfer. My fifth graders absolutely loved this! They usually hate math, but when I was done with this lesson, they were asking to do more problems. It teaches the concept of the shift pattern or number of zeros when you are multiplying by a power of ten.
These are pictures of goods and services. I give them to a group of kids as an inquiry lesson. I don't teach goods and services, but give them the pictures to sort them into two groups. Then we talk about how everyone sorted the pictures and teach about goods and services. Then have them sort it again. This is good for first grade Social Studies.
This is a document with 12 greeting cards you can print and fold for kids to write in during writing time. There is a sheet with handwriting without tears double lines to copy onto the other sides so they can write inside. The greeting cards include "get well soon", "missed you", "I love you", "congratulations", and "happy birthday" cards.
There are 8 bingo cards with words that have the or sound in them. Some are simple words and others are more challenging words for your high students. This is great for first grade phonics.

These are Christmas pictures to prompt creative writing with handwriting without tears double lines. I tell my students to write a story about what is happening in the pictures.
This is a good visual for teaching how two partners added is equal to two other partners added because they have the same total. It is a great challenge worksheet for students who are more advanced in math for first grade. It is a good math fast finisher to my other balance scale addition worksheet.
There are 8 different bingo cards with all oa and ay words on them. There are some simple ones and some challenging ones for your high students. Great for phonics in first grade.

Cut out the words into cards. Pair up the students or put them in groups. Give each group/pair a set of cards (1 sheet for a pair of students is usually good) and have them play go fish. A match is a word and that same word with -y at the end. So, for example, if a student has the word "grouchy," they need to ask "do you have grouch?" This teaches the phonemic awareness - phonemic deletion unit in the treasures basal reading program.
