Experience

I have taught ELA for grades 9-12 for over twenty years.

Teaching style

I like to combine grammar, literature, and other elements of language arts into every class. I incorporate state standards while keeping my students engaged through skits, discussions, and group work. I am a visual teacher, and I often show artwork to help students understand what they're studying. I love to use PowerPoints because they help keep me on track as a teacher.

I have won the local Rotary Club's Teacher of the Year honor for the last three years.

My own education history

I have a BS in Secondary Education (English), an MS in English Education, and an Ed.S in Educational Leadership.

Additional biographical information

I live in rural West Tennessee. I am married and have one daughter. I am a co-director for the West Tennessee Writing Project, a program that helps train teachers to become stronger writing teachers.
