Teaching style

My teaching style is rooted in connection, engagement, and meaningful language development. I believe students learn best in supportive, language-rich classrooms where they feel safe to take risks, collaborate, and grow as readers, writers, and communicators. As an educator, I focus on scaffolded instruction that makes learning accessible for all students while still maintaining high expectations. I use visuals, academic conversation, sentence frames, graphic organizers, and hands-on learning experiences to help students build confidence and independence. I am especially passionate about supporting multilingual learners and developing writers through practical strategies that encourage student voice, critical thinking, and authentic communication. My goal is to create resources that are engaging, effective, and easy for teachers to implement in real classrooms.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Throughout my career in education, some of my proudest moments have come from helping students grow in confidence as readers, writers, and communicators. Whether supporting multilingual learners, guiding struggling writers, mentoring students, or collaborating with educators, I have always been passionate about creating meaningful learning experiences that help students feel seen, capable, and successful. Over the years, I have contributed to curriculum development, literacy initiatives, multilingual learner support programs, family engagement projects, and district-level educational resources. I have also supported teachers and schools through educational consulting, writing, coaching, and professional learning projects focused on language development, literacy, and student-centered instruction. Several ELD strategy classroom videos I produced in collaboration with classroom teachers, including lesson design and instructional coaching support, have been featured by the California Department of Education as exemplar resources for effective ELD instruction. I have also worked with Pearson as a trainer supporting second language development assessment systems and educator implementation. Early in my career, I was honored to be recognized as Teacher of the Year during my student teaching internship experience, an encouragement that strengthened my passion for education and literacy instruction. One of the most rewarding parts of teaching has always been watching students discover their voice and build confidence through language and literacy. Those everyday classroom breakthroughs, student connections, and moments of growth continue to inspire the resources I create today.

My own education history

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English, a Master of Fine Arts in English and Writing, and a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. My educational background combines a deep foundation in literacy, writing, communication, and language development with extensive classroom teaching experience. My graduate studies strengthened my passion for storytelling, academic writing, and authentic communication, while my teaching credential program provided hands-on experience in elementary education, literacy instruction, differentiated learning, and student-centered teaching practices. Throughout my career, I have continued to blend my backgrounds in education and writing to create engaging, scaffolded resources that support students, multilingual learners, and educators in meaningful and practical ways.

Additional biographical information

In addition to my work in education, I am also a freelance writer, educational consultant, and creative content developer. I have collaborated with schools, districts, educational organizations, and creative teams on projects involving literacy, multilingual learner support, family engagement, curriculum development, newsletters, website content, educational storytelling, and professional learning resources. As both an educator and writer, I am passionate about creating resources that are practical, engaging, and rooted in authentic learning experiences. My work is deeply influenced by my experiences in the classroom, my love of language and storytelling, and my commitment to helping students and teachers feel confident and supported. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, writing, creative projects, and exploring hands-on, play-based learning experiences with my children.
