I received my BS in education with elementary and special education certification. I then went on earn my M.Ed. with a reading specialist certification. Of course, I am a lifelong learner, so I couldn't help myself, and I went back to school to get my K-12 Principal certification. Did you think I was done? Guess again!!! Finally, I took courses in applied behavior analysis to work toward becoming a BCBA.
My first teaching job was in a 5th and 6th grade learning support classroom in an urban school. I then relocated and began working as a 5th grade, regular education teacher. I taught 5th grade for 12 years and then made the move to 4th grade, my current teaching position. I only teach ELA but have taught all subjects in the past. I currently teach a class of students who are well below grade level and need all 4th grade materials adapted. While they do receive specific interventions to target their identified needs, part of my job is to expose them to grade level content. Therefore, I use the reading program, Journeys, which my school district just purchased, but I adapted all of the lesson. That is why many of my resources are for various Journeys weekly lessons.
I also love to incorporate authentic children's literature when I get the chance. Because of that, I have started making resources to use to various holiday-themed children's books. Although, if I am being honest, I feel like the term "children's books" is a lie. "Those books can be used to teach lesson to ANY age group.
