Debate Organizer: Take a Stand

This simple organizer assists students with looking at both the pros and cons of every debate prior to selecting a side to support. Often used in my classroom first as individual and paired brainstorming sheet, later shared, and used as a classroom graphic organizer for a written debate. Enjoy!

The Nuts and Bolts of Density

In this short lab sheet, teacher provide students with three types of bolts and nuts made of zinc, stainless steel and brass from a local hardware store. The students walk through the sheet requiring a hypothesis, the lab, then a revised hypothesis or findings. Each of my fifth and sixth grade groups enjoyed this lab - and always pleasantly surprised with the results of this lab experience.

Division word problem solving organizer

Help your students go through each step of identifying the most important information in a division word problem. They begin by pulling out the question being asked, then identifying the numbers necessary, followed by working through the division problem. Finally, they answer the question and create a fact family at the bottom. My students used these in pairs, each working out a problem while the other coached them through the problem solving process.

Following Directions Build a Snowman ornament

Fun activity where students read the poem/song of how to build a snowman, then assemble one by following the directions in the poem. I used this as a homework assignment with the directions attached to a baggie filled with the materials listed on page 2. Students can complete this as a keepsake or to decorate the classroom to reflect a winter theme. It was splendid to see the various interpretations of how their snowman was built.
