Gifted and Talented - Autobiographical Life Map Unit
Wake up the memories of your gifted and talented students and use them to create an autobiographical life map. This life map will help your students visualize their life journey (past, present, and future) and teach them the power of autobiographical thinking and metaphorical representation. Students will begin by viewing a PowerPoint (included) on this type of thinking. Experience
I've been teaching for 40+ years. I was an elementary science specialist for much of my career, but have been teaching gifted education for the last 20+ years.
Teaching style
My teaching style is geared to meet the needs of my students’ learning styles. Sometimes that's like spinning a dozen plates at once. To the untrained eye, this may look like chaos, but there is real, student centered learning going on...and that is not always quiet or neat. I am definitely the “guide on the side” in my classroom.
Awards & shining teacher moments
I have been Teacher of the Year for my school system and
NASA Teacher of the Year for my state. I have written curriculum for my State Department of Education as well as several other state agencies I conduct workshops and trainings at the local, state, and national level.
My own education history
I have a BS in elementary education from The University of Alabama, a MS in elementary education from The University of Alabama in Birmingham, and a gifted specialist certification from The University of Alabama.
