This common denominator table is arranged in a similar format to a multiplication table. Students can use this table to find the common denominator for measurement fractions, which are the most commonly used in everyday math.

After reading Ann Rinaldi's Appalachian novel The Coffin Quilt, students can select from a variety of mini-projects to show their understanding of the content and the characters. The mini-projects requires use of iPads and/or computers.

This writing activity can be paired with S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders. R.A.F.T. stands for Role, Audience, Format, and Topic. Students can select the character (as whom they are writing), the character's audience (whom the character is writing to), the form of communication, and the topic. This activity gives students options within the assignment, but requires them to incorporate knowledge of the characters, their perspectives, and events from the book.

This Think-Tac-Toe activity pairs up with Lois Lowry's award-winning The Giver. This Think-Tac-Toe gives students a variety of activities to show their understanding of concepts and characters from the novel. Think-Tac-Toe (like tic-tac-toe) is not complete until there are three in a row. Students can select three assignments in a row to complete. They MUST select three assignments in a row.
