Alphabet mats can seem tedious because 26 cards is a lot! I've placed two letters per card AND printed front and back will make it less to manage. Each card had a clear written letter and a bolder outline to allow for thick playdough while still understanding the pencil lines of the letters. Each card has a clear picture of an item beginning with that letter and the word under the picture. These can be used in a center, small group or as a whole class!
