Substitute folder checklist

This checklist goes into your substitution folder. I usually place around 10 worksheets that I regularly update. In the event that I have to be away, the subsititute teacher may choose a worksheet to complete with my students. The checklist allows the substitute teacher to tick off the worksheet that was completed so that the class teacher may look at the work completed and replace the worksheet with a new task.

Experience

I started teaching in 1999. I was a homeroom teacher of Grade 1 for 2 years. In 2002, I was subject teacher for Grade 5. I taught English and social studies. In 2006, I travelled oversees and was a KG teacher for one year. In 2011, I changed jobs and I took on a new challenge. Teaching High School. I taught grades 8, 10, 11, and 12 English. This year, I am Head of Department, and I also teach grades 9-12. It's a handful, but I love teaching.

Teaching style

I want to enjoy teaching just as much as I want my students to enjoy it. At the beginning of the year, I set the tone/environment that I believe is conductive to a dynamic learning experience. I give my students much leeway and ample variety of ways to learn. I enjoy group work, so you'll often find my students working in groups. I support learning rather than lecture a lesson. I provide students with the tools they need to engage themselves in the learning process. I create webquests, class websites, webpages for specific topics, and I thoroughly enjoy it. My students enjoy spending their free time in my class. I am happy to know that they feel AT HOME in my classroom.

Awards & shining teacher moments
