This is an outline on how to prepare a cell model project. Includes a list of all the parts of both plant and animal cells that need to be labeled along with suggestions for materials to get students started.
Students read a short passage and then draw conclusions based on what they read and their prior knowledge. Students must also support their inferences citing evidence from the text. Students are then given a list of 15 statements and must determine whether they are inferences or facts. Answer key included.

ELA Test Prep, English Language Arts, Reading Strategies
For this project, students choose an animal of high interest to them and research the following topics: physical appearance, habitat, diet, structural adaptations, reproduction and communication. It also includes a bibliography with samples using the proper format. I have included a rubric for easy grading as well. This report easily adapts for different grade levels and differentiated instruction.
You can use this for a feature article as well!

English Language Arts, General Science, Writing-Expository
Students use the internet to research and identify ten different relationships between species of organisms. Content area covered includes parasitism, commensalism, and mutualism. They must also describe how the relationship between the organisms works.
To understand the concept of protective coloration (camouflage), and adaptations, students color and hide butterflies in the classroom then "Predators" try to find and eat them!
This activity is always a big hit! Students create their own animal cell cookies using different types of candy. Included is a list of ingredients and step-by-step instructions.
Students create their own poetry book which includes several different types of poems (haiku, concrete, rhyming) and the use of figurative language (similes, metaphors, imagery, rhyme, alliteration, onomatopoeia). Grading rubric included.
