Passion Poem Writing Activity
Help your students unleash their passion for writing poetry with this engaging activity. Students will listen to or read the poem "Dear Basketball" by Kobe Bryant to begin this activity. They will brainstorm ideas on the "Brainstorm" sheet before choosing their topic. The graphic organizer will help your students to organize their stanzas before writing their first draft on one of the two sheets provided. Finally, students will use the graphic arts tool, Canva, to design the final copy of the

Revise vs Edit Handout
I use this to help my students remember the difference between revising and editing their writing. They have to try to do at least 3 things in the revise side before they can tell me that they are finished. This cuts down on the "I'm Done" after 5 minutes of revising time. The acronyms also help them to remember the different categories.

I have been teaching for 19 years.
I taught Kindergarten for 5 years, fourth grade for 7 years and I am now teaching middle school ELA.
Teaching style
Each child that walks into my classroom is unique and should be treated that way. I believe in offering a variety of different options for students to show what they have learned. Students in my class are often up and moving around the room. My classroom is set up in pairs with no real front or back to the room. I view my classroom as a family we respect each other and do what we can to encourage each other daily.
My own education history
I have my BA in Communications (PR/Journalism) and my MA in Education.
Additional biographical information
My family and I enjoy movie nights at home, playing in the backyard, soccer, and going to the beach. I love being creative. Embroidery is my newest hobby. You can often find me at the kitchen table drawing or hand lettering or playing board games with my kids.
