This creative writing activity is an excellent way for students to express their understanding, opinions, thoughts, etc. after reading a biography of Martin Luther King, Jr. or studying the Civil Rights Movement. I used the finished products to decorate the hall with around the MLK Holiday and was amazed at how thoughtful my students' responses were! Enjoy!
Use this writing prompt as a pre-reading activity for any story involving family traditions, holidays, or cultural diversity. Or use it as an activity prior to any Holiday and allow students to share with each other. This is a great activity for discussing diversity as each student will most likely write about something different.
Use this crossword puzzle as a pre-assessment before a unit on fairy tales or traditional literature or as a post-unit activity or just for fun! The crossword puzzle is fairly challenging and might require students to research or work together to find the answers. An answer key is included! Enjoy!
Use this book jacket template as a fun book report or reading activity. Students will need legal-sized copy paper in order to have enough space. Also be sure they understand on which side to write; sometimes it's confusing to them that they will draw the front cover on the right hand side of the page, etc. Enjoy!
This power point presentation is a quick wat to review the different types of nouns: common, proper, abstract, and collective. It also gives a quick reminder that nouns have different jobs such as a direct object, object of the preposition, etc. It also provides a tip for finding the nouns in a sentence. Sometimes students need this quick refresher before learning more difficult grammar or even foreign language! This is also a good lesson to use for ESOL or tutoring. Enjoy!
