Experience

With five years of teaching under my belt, my ability to create and revise lessons has improved immensely but is by no means perfected. I have experience in both public and charter middle schools where I collaborated with exemplary teachers. While my soul most identifies with 6th graders, I got to teach all three middle school grades multiple times in my career.

Teaching style

Trained in Gomez and Gomez, a bilingual program used in Texas, I use a lesson plan that combines direct instruction with two leveled activities and a reflection. I also adopted a combination of small group, paired, and individual work to encourage teamwork in the classroom. I enjoy watching students work together while keeping each other accountable.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Graduated Cum Laude: Colorado State University Teacher of the Month: January

My own education history

I explored my love of writing with an undergraduate in the Creative Writing program at Colorado State University. Because I loved the atmosphere of education I chose to complete the CSU Masters of Education program. I am also passionate about professional development and my continuing education includes everything from Performance Poetry to Brain Based Learning.

Additional biographical information

A Colorado native, I am lucky enough to share my life with my wife and three stubborn dogs. We usually have a fourth dog as we foster through several local shelters. Our pack finds joy in hiking, paddle boarding, and going to the local drive in.
