Students are more likely to read if it's recommended by a peer. Easily post this document to your Google Classroom at the beginning of the year, so students can refer to it year-round. Text Connection: Bridge to Terabithia & Poetry
After reading the novel Bridge to Terabithia, students will be able to make connections to poetry by reading short poems by Shel Silverstein. Students will compare the voice and themes of the poems to the events in the novel. Print these slides to be used in rotating stations or in literacy centers. Post the document on Google Classroom and have the students respond in their writing journals or use them for whole class or small group discussions. There are a total of 7 slides including the

Additional biographical information
I spent most of my teaching career in an urban district. I now teach in a suburban area in northern New Jersey. I am a mom to two beautiful children, ages 8 and 10. Even though I currently teach Middle School, I am constantly looking for new ways to help my own children understand the skills they learn in the elementary grades.
