Experience

I have been teaching for 15 years, working with students in all grade levels, K–12, either teaching Spanish or supporting English Learners. Currently, I teach middle school reading RTI and Spanish, focusing on helping students build literacy, language skills, and confidence. Over the years, I have designed curriculum, interventions, and resources tailored to diverse learners, combining classroom-tested strategies with engaging, practical materials.

Teaching style

My teaching style is student-centered, engaging, and practical. I love using cooperative learning strategies that encourage collaboration and build social-emotional skills while reinforcing content. I create resources that are easy to implement, visually appealing, and designed to keep students actively involved—whether in Spanish class or reading RTI interventions. My goal is always to make learning meaningful, accessible, and fun for every student.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I have been honored as Teacher of the Year by the Kentucky TESOL organization and recognized as Teacher of the Month in my previous district. In addition to classroom teaching, I serve as Specials Team Leader and hold positions on my school’s Leadership Committee and PBIS Committee. These experiences allow me to contribute to school-wide initiatives while continuously improving instruction and supporting both students and colleagues.

My own education history

I earned my B.A. in Spanish, Master of Education, and TESOL endorsement from Murray State University. During my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Spain for a semester, immersing myself in the language and culture. I also achieved Rank I certification through the BloomBoard program. My education has provided a strong foundation in both language instruction and effective teaching strategies, which I apply daily in my classroom and in the resources I create for other educators.

Additional biographical information

When I’m not teaching, I love to dance and participate in a weekly dance group. I also enjoy running to stay active. I’m married to another teacher—my husband teaches computer science—and we have two amazing children, a dog, three cats, and two fish. I’m passionate about my family, plants, animals, and traveling, and I survive on a steady supply of coffee. These hobbies along with my family life keep me energized and inspired, both in and out of the classroom.
