Pink Eraser Art

This is a really fun and unique 2-3 day lesson that has proved to be very engaging for my students! It gives them a glimpse of printmaking on a very small scale, as they use standard pink erasers to carve and print! I've included a link in the slides for a handout that you can print and give to students to plan their designs prior to giving them their erasers. It's likely your students will come back and ask for more erasers to create more designs to print!

This is an easy and fun lesson that I have loved doing with my middle and high school students. In this slide presentation you will find great examples to inspire your students, video tutorials, and a handout you can print to give your students with design and pattern ideas. I've found this to be a fantastic lesson that keeps students engaged for 1-2 weeks (if using large sized paper)!

This Art Quiz has SAVED ME many times in class when I've needed an activity to keep students engaged for a short period of time. You know those last few minutes of class after students have cleaned up and they're waiting in their seats for the bell to ring. I always have this quiz (with over 100 questions!) as one of the tabs opened on my laptop for easy access. It's also an easy and fun way for students to learn art facts and art history. I use this same art quiz for the entire semester that I

9 Squares - all about you (mixed media art project for Middle and High School)

This choice based art project is great for Middle and High School students. It's one I usually do at the beginning of the year as a way to get to know my students, and see their abilities with different mediums. It's a great way for them to see which mediums they like as well. It normally takes about two weeks for students to complete. Students have fun figuring out what they will create in each square, and I make sure to have a huge variety of materials for them to choose from while creating.

This is a great handout to give students when they need pattern and design ideas for projects. I print them out and put them on each table for students to look at for inspiration, and they work great. *This handout is included when you purchase my Neurographic Art Project.

This fun and engaging activity can be done in 1 or 2 days. Some students will want to keep creating oil pastel eyes for the rest of the week! I see this project as a good opportunity for students to try out oil pastels, with a subject that is usually very successful for most students. Having students use "unusual colors" levels the playing field for students because their eyeball does not need to look realistic with regards to their color scheme. They can go crazy and have fun choosing any color

If you've not created Notans with your students yet, this is your chance! A Notan artwork is an arrangement of abstract shapes using paper, scissors, and glue. This is a project that can take between 2-5 days, and sometimes longer, depending on how detailed students get with their designs. It's a great project to introduce students to a different way of creating, and Matisse would be a great artist to connect to this lesson!

Here's your chance to encourage your students to learn about Contemporary Artists, using the fabulous website https://www.thisiscolossal.com/ (please preview the website before sharing with your students). If you are looking for a one or two day research project for your students, this is a great one! If your students are already familiar with Google Slides, I think it would be a good option for a sub as well. This would be best used with upper middle or high school students. We're so used to l

My students love using this Bingo Sheet during the Christmas season, as it gives them lots of choices about what they can create, all focused on the Christmas holiday. I have often used it during the week leading up to Christmas, and sometimes students use it as a way to create Christmas gifts for their family and friends.
