AP Spanish Language and Culture Quick Reference Themes and Sub-themes Comprehensive list of the themes and subthemes.
I created this as a teacher new to AP to organize the possible themes under each of the 6 main themes.
Online Dating Profile worksheet We use this in the Belleza theme of Temas in AP Spanish Language and Culture when learning vocabulary about physical and personality characteristics. It is an editable document with text boxes for physical characteristics, personality, interests, what you want in a future partner, etc.
This power point includes photos, videos, and information on Spain, the Spanish language, Arabic/Muslim influence, cities of Madrid, Toledo, Segovia, Sevilla, Barcelona, Cordoba, Granada and more!
I used it specifically for Chapter 8 of Realidades 3, but could be used for any instruction in English or Spanish about the history and culture of Spain.
This is a fun and quick way to practice and recycle old vocabulary but with a Valentine theme. The files are editable, so you can change the titles/categories to any that you want. You will receive the powerpoint version and the worksheet version. The instructions are on the second slide of the PPT. This can be used for all levels. For lower levels, give them more time or allow them to use resources or a partner. For upper levels, create a challenge by adding words they CAN'T use (like Taboo gam
This power point is to have students answer the "What would you do?" questions using the conditional tense. I put the students in pairs, show the slide, give them a few seconds to practice, then call on a few students to answer. These are funny scenarios to get them interested in what they would do, but using the conditional tense.
I use this for chapter 8 of Realidades 3, but can be used for any conditional tense lesson.
We use this during the Deserción Escolar / Educación / carreras theme. We created this to tap in to a major thing on their minds as juniors and seniors -how to decide on a college or future path. This will get them speaking and stretching their skills while discussing the decision of which university to attend! The product includes a description of how to use the activity step by step. It could take a full 55 minute class period with a pre-assignment and a post-assignment, too. Or, can be modi
First, print the first 2 pages on cardstock and cut into strips and put into an envelope. Make as many sets as you need for 1 envelope per small group. I recommend groups of 3.
One person from the group will draw a slip of paper and pose the question to each member of the group and they will take turns answering in Spanish. (My students know to ALWAYS follow up any questions with "¿Por qué?")
When most groups have finished most of the questions (could be about 25 mins), then give them the 1/2
This can be used for all levels! Lower levels can stick with "this or that" or "I like...". To make it more advanced, have students give complete sentence answers, add why/because, or vary the tenses using the questions. This is an editable file so you can adjust and change it however you would like.
These questions get students speaking in the target language about 3 versions of the painting "Las Meninas". I put the original by Velazquez, Picasso's version, and Dali's version on the projector screen (or provide each pair with the color printouts) and had the students pair/share the answers in Spanish.
Print enough copies on cardstock to have 1 set per small group. (For this activity I used groups of 4 in hopes that at least one student would know the person.) One student draws the slip of paper and holds it up where he/she cannot see it but the rest of the group can. The rest of the group describes the famous person in Spanish. If the guesser is correct, he or she keeps the paper as a "point".
I used this as an intro to the AP Personal and Public Identities theme.
Used in AP Spanish theme Belleza for comparison of fashion past and present in Spanish speaking countries. Then follow up with a cultural comparison of that country to own culture's dress. Rubric included. The students love finding traditional and modern outfits to try to recreate for the fashion show in class!
Assign this AP Presentational Speaking during the Art portion of the Beauty and Aesthetics chapter. The kids had a great time showing the class which artwork they would choose for their house and why.
Cute placemats for quiet practice or parties. Includes games and beginning Spanish practice and some culture for fun. Great for young and old! I print on front to back on cardstock or increase the size and print on 11x17.
These are different situations that students may find themselves in and would need to use their Spanish. Assign pairs a situation and have them create the dialogue! I am using it in AP, but could be for various levels.
Have students practice the email reply Interpersonal Writing with this prompt and rubric for the Careers Profession Education part of the themes. Although this is AP exam prep, any course writing about future jobs could use this activity!
This includes a side by side template for weekly lesson planning. The thumbnail doesn't show the actual formatting. Click on preview to see how it will look! The preview is in Spanish, but the file you purchase is editable word document.
*similar to flyswatter game Use this in a variety of ways: --Write the words in English or Spanish and students compete to say, mark, or slap the correct word --Can provide the Spanish word and have to give a definition to mark it --A twist would be to use the llamas for old vocab or difficult words for 2x the points --I make enough copies of the completed game so each group of 2 competes on one paper for maximum engagement --Could also use for verbs/conjugation
I used this the first day after practicing vocab with quizlets and accessing their prior knowlege. It is an introductory activity to get them thinking, writing, and speaking about art. It can either be assigned as homework or in class and then have them pair/share or by asking and answering each other around the room.
