A quick library or classroom lesson for elementary students. Introduces the concepts of fiction and nonfiction to students, and allows them to sort books into fiction or nonfiction categories.

I used this drawing as a starting point for students to create Chatterpix based on their favorite folk hero studied in first grade. Heroes included are Davy Crockett, Paul Bunyan, Annie Oakley, Johnny Appleseed, and John Henry.

Here is a set of eleven cards to print for your students to do an Internet scavenger hunt using tablets or smart phones! Each card has the topic students will research and a QR code that links to a website with information. Includes state symbols and other important facts.

Students work on retelling the story and sequencing the events in Oh, No! by Candace Fleming.
