Who doesn't love the story of Oscar, the poor, taunted dachschund dog who gets laughed at by his friends and some ornery cats? I love to read this story every October (or anytime!) so I created this follow-up activity to go along with it. I used this with my library classes and they really enjoyed it! Have fun! This is a read aloud support powerpoint to the novel Because of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea to help students keep track of the chapter’s characters. I read this aloud to my 5th grade library class and they love it. Help students distinguish between literal and non-literal word meanings and phrases by engaging them with this fun activity! Choose a Tedd Arnold book that gives hilarious examples of idioms (Parts, More Parts, or Even More Parts) and read to the class. Then discuss the idioms and what they really mean. Brainstorm and record additional idiom phrases. Then introduce the matching activity and then have them illustrate their own idiom of choice for fun!

What an adorable way to show your students that you are a reader too! Simply print, glue to cardstock, laminate, and display! These will last you year after year! February is I Love to Read month and let's celebrate with a reading challenge! I created this as a school librarian to encourage the students to read more. I made a bulletin board and labeled each poster with the grade/teacher in the text boxes. As students read a book, they filled out a heart and I stapled it above their teacher's poster.
