Guide & Template: Community-Building Circles

Created by
lifeworthyed
A how-to guide for running a circle for 6-12, including a template to plan your own. The structure borrows from the restorative justice practice of community circles to have difficult conversations, but they are even better for building community through a safe, structured discussion! This is a great tool for advisory, crew, or homeroom, as well as something subject teachers can use. The template will have you started planning your own!

Careful planning lets me facilitate purposeful and engaging experiences and use what I know about cognitive psychology to make learning stick. My classroom needs to be a place where students are happy to be and willing to take risks, which requires deliberately co-creating a classroom community with students and through thoughtful assessments and policies that prioritize competency and allow for growth.
