About the store
Welcome to Lights Camera Classroom! I’m Mike, a lifelong storyteller and a love for helping students discover the power of media. Before stepping into the classroom, I spent 12 years as a PBS producer and director and 15 years as a photojournalist and writer for newspaper, telling stories that matter and capturing moments through the lens. For the past 10 years, I’ve brought that real-world experience to the classroom, teaching Video Production and Photography at a career-focused campus where students learn hands-on skills that prepare them for creative futures. Here you’ll find practical, engaging lessons and worksheets that I've used to help train and educate my media students over the years. Whether you’re guiding students through the basics of camera work, helping them plan and edit videos, or encouraging them to tell their own stories with confidence, it all begins with a strong foundation. Thank you for stopping by! I hope these resources help you spark creativity and inspire the next generation of storytellers.

Teaching style

I believe the best way to learn is by doing. As a hands-on instructor, I don’t keep my students stuck in the pages of a book for weeks , I put the camera in their hands within the first week of school. In my classroom, students learn by experimenting, practicing, and creating real projects. Whether they’re filming, editing, or snapping photos, they build confidence and skills through real experience and peer critique, not just theory. My resources are designed to help you bring that same active, engaging approach to your own classroom and make your life a little easier ; ) so your students can learn “on the job” and discover the magic of storytelling for themselves.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Over the years, I’ve watched my students achieve incredible thing, from debuting short films at SXSW, competing at the SkillsUSA National Convention, to enrolling in top film programs like USC Cinematic Arts, University of Texas, and University of North Texas. Many have gone on to produce for Netflix, TEDx, and independent studios around the country. In my classroom, I work hard to build a culture where students learn with and from each other. They lift each other up, share their skills, and grow together as storytellers and creators. It’s this supportive, collaborative spirit that makes the real magic happen.
