Teaching style

My teaching style is hands-on. I meet students where they are, cheer for their successes, guide them through challenges, and create a safe classroom environment. I give my students positive feedback and encourage them to always try their best. Even though the course is only required for one year, my students often stay with me for 3 to 4 years because they love the experience and community we build together. Watching my students bloom into confident performers or seeing a group of kids collaborate to create something amazing—it’s why I’ve loved this work for three decades.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Throughout my career, I’ve experienced so many shining moments that continue to fuel my passion for teaching including being rated a "Highly Effective" teacher, year after year. What makes me even prouder, is that I love watching all of my students perform. I am especially moved when my less confident students take risks, grow in confidence, and discover their own strengths on and off stage. I love that many of my students enroll in my theater class as freshman and voluntarily continue for the next four years until their senior year. A lot of them have gone on to win theater related awards, landed lead roles in plays, or have gone on to top theater high schools, colleges, and professional theater productions —but for me, the true magic is in those first breakthroughs, the laughter and joy during class, the spark when a student suddenly believes in themselves. Those are the moments I live for as a teacher. I am a proud recipient of the "Disney Teacher of the Year" award.

My own education history

I have a Bachelor 's Degree in Theater and a Master's Degree in English Secondary Education, plus 30 additional graduate credits.

Additional biographical information

I love teaching because I get to make a positive difference in my students’ lives, both onstage and off. When I am not teaching, I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family and friends.
