Experience

I am getting ready for my 5th year of teaching! I have taught science, social studies, and ELAR in 3rd and 4th grade.

Teaching style

I desire for my classroom to be covered with calming colors and to be a space where students feel safe and ready to learn. I love using alternative seating when I can and using a verity of teaching styles. I am a hands on learner, which can sometimes be difficult in the ELA setting. I try to make my classes as interactive as possible and hope to add more small group activities this year that I can their to individual student goals. I am a big fan of goal setting, even with my 4th graders. Many see reading and writing as a big struggle, and I hope that helping students set goals and check points can help them enjoy the subject as I have. Growing up I struggled with motivation to read and write. I did not want to try conquering any text longer than a paragraph. I later learned that I am Dyslexic, which explained much of my struggle with the subjects. After working through my challenges with reading and learning to set goals, it got to the point where I didn’t want to put my books down. I had found a love for books. Reading and writing have been so impactful in my life beyond being able to work and learn in an academic setting. These subjects became an outlet for me to learn about the world and myself, and I hope that I can show my students the impact that reading and writing can have on their life.

My own education history

I attended public school K-12 in East Texas, and followed up by attending East Texas Baptist to obtain my Bachelor’s of Science in Education. I specialized and became certified for early childhood through 6th grade in all subjects.
