Teaching style

As a teacher, building relationships with my stiudents was of utmost importance. My students knew that I cared about each one of them and believed they could be successful. We all worked together to make our classroom a safe place for learning and growing. In our classroom the children spent time thinking about their thinking; they made mistakes and figured out how to fix them; they spent time in discourse with each other and with me; they worked hard at becoming great readers, writers, and mathematicians; they learned how to work collaboratively; and, they had fun learning.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I was honored to receive the "Everyday Math Hero Award" from Mt Lassen Math Council, my local mathematics council. Additionally I received an award as Central Office Administrator of the Year from the CA Region 2 area for ACSA.

My own education history

I earned my A.A. in Liberal Arts from East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park, CA; my B.A. in Multiple Subjects from CA State University, Chico in Chico, CA, and my M.A.Ed (Mathematics Specialization, PreK-Grade 5 ) from Simpson University, Redding, CA.

Additional biographical information

As a participant in the Summer Teacher institutes for Mathematics at CSU Chico, I became a member of their Teacher Leadership Academy. I have also facilitated courses for Math Their Way and taught the followup classes during the school year. While working at the County Office of Education I had the opportunity to serve on a statewide Curriculum and Instruction Committee for Mathematics. I learned so much from math colleagues from all over the State of CA and had the opportunity to work with and learn from some incredible professional development speakers and authors. My position allowed me to collaborate with and participate as one of the early writers of the CA Learning Foundations for Preschool, work on various state wide documents including the CCSS Math Toolkit, Transitional Kindergarten Readiness Manuel, and many other documents related to mathematics. https://www.facebook.com/m3m.math.m/ logo design done by A Little Peace of Africa
