"The Prologue" to the Canterbury Tales I have included in this lesson everything I have ever used to teach "The Prologue" to the Canterbury Tales. The notes are notes I took in grad school combined with my research over the last fifteen years. I suggest you read over them as some of the content is a bit bawdy and not what you will find in the usual high school textbook. Because of this, I am suggesting that the notes for “The Prologue” not necessarily be a projectable, but that they serve you

"What is essential is invisible to the eye. It is only with the heart that one can see rightly." In the dedication to The Little Prince, the author, St. Exupéry says, "All grown-ups were once children — although few of them remember it." We live in a society in which children are forced to grow up too soon. They are exposed to inappropriate language and images, violence, and pressures from friends and society in general. They also are inundated with technology and are, some at very young age

Teaching style

I have always believed that all kids have the ability to learn - regardless of their backgrounds. I believe they are our future; they are the ones who will elect the next president and vote for the propositions that affect our lives. Therefore, the classroom must foster critical thinking and reading and writing skills.

Awards & shining teacher moments

The best reward I can ever have is when a student raises his or her hand and reveals that he/she "gets" it by sharing an analytical thought, revealing the full scope of their critical thinking skills. That's success and that is all I need - proof that my efforts pay off.

My own education history

I hold a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in the Teaching of English, as well as a Master's degree in Psychology. Additionally, I am a Fellow of the National Writing Project, further enhancing my expertise in writing instruction and educational leadership.

Additional biographical information

I have two high schoolers at home and live in California. Watching them navigate their learning, processing, thinking, and creating has given me a deeper understanding of the learning process in my own students. It never ceases to amaze me how their minds work—just like with my students, kids of all ages are truly remarkable!
