Welcome to Literary Sherri. I'm over-the-moon happy you're here! I'm Sherri and I've been developing curriculum for students in grades 5-9 for twenty-five years. I love creating resources that foster authentic learning, meaningful conversations, and creative and critical thinking.
I've been privileged to work with a wide variety of students in fifth through twelfth grades, including English Language Learners, Special Education, gifted and talented, and at-risk students. In addition to classroom teaching, I've worked as a mentor teacher, a Literacy Specialist, a push-in Special Education teacher, a workshop facilitator, and a professional development presenter for English Language Arts, literacy skills, and classroom management.
Because I'm passionate about providing high-quality resources for teachers and students around the country, I now write curriculum full-time, accompanied by subbing and tutoring to keep my resources and classroom management relevant and practical . . . and to stay engaged with students and colleagues, who I still find as energizing and inspiring as they were my first year of teaching!

Teaching style
All learners have different and unique learning styles, so I strive to integrate a variety of teaching styles in my resources, including hands-on-learning, collaborative projects, deep-thinking activities, and authentic, real-world learning opportunities that capture students' interests and imaginations.
I believe it's important for students to engage every day with learning materials, one another, and their teachers because active learning results in life-long learners! I work to continuously refine and adapt my research-based resources to reflect students' current needs, interests, and schema.
Awards & shining teacher moments
I've presented a variety of workshops at local and state-wide professional development conferences, been nominated by students, colleagues, and administrators for awards and recognitions, including the Disney American Teacher of the Year Award and university fellowships, and been inducted into Alpha Kappa Delta, a world-wide organization that honors outstanding women educators.
However, my greatest and most cherished teaching honors are found in my top-right desk drawer, in a manila folder filled with handwritten notes, cards, and letters from former students, parents, and colleagues. Ryan wrote, "Why do you care about us so freakin' much?!?" Brandon noted, "I never knew I enjoyed reading so much until this year. Thank you for helping me discover mysteries and mythologies. I've never had a favorite genre before. Now I have two!" Lauren's mom jotted, "Thank you for helping my daughter believe in herself and build her confidence. She fell in love with school and learning this year." This folder is one of my most treasured possessions and its contents never fail to make me smile, laugh, cry, and remember why I dearly love teaching.

Additional biographical information
Teaching is my heart! I'm especially passionate about literacy because it's the foundation of all learning, it empowers students to become active, independent thinkers and lifelong learners, and it equips them to better communicate their thoughts and ideas. People who function at high levels of literacy discover doors of opportunity are opened for them that would not be available otherwise . . . and I want to help open as many doors as possible for my students and yours!
