Experience

I love writing probably almost as much as I love teaching. I have been an Elementary Educator for more than a quarter of a century. My experiences in a variety of areas have led me to create a multitude of resources that I cannot wait to share with you! My professional development includes training in Lesley University's Literacy Collaborative Framework, FUNdations, UFLI, and The Units of Study from the Reading/Writing Project. My experience in elementary education ranges from K-2, teaching general education, the ELL classes as well as co-teaching in integrated classrooms.

Teaching style

My teaching style is based in Vygotsky's theory which emphasizes that learning is a social process influenced by cultural contexts and interactions with more knowledgeable others. I utilize a balanced Literacy Framework that is layered from the highest level of support to the lowest level of support in Reading and Writing.

Awards & shining teacher moments

In the fall of 2008, I was honored by the New York State English Council as an Educator of Excellence for demonstrating exemplary teaching.

My own education history

I graduated Dowling College as a double major in Performance Speech/Drama and Elementary Education. My Masters is in Special Education. I continued my educational path by earning 75 additional credits, the majority of those being Literacy Based. I was also trained in Lesley Universities Literacy Collaborative Framework that credited me with the unique opportunity to be a trainer in my district for 10 years.

Additional biographical information

I am a mom of two and I have a bunch of fur babies. I fell in love with writing at an early age. I took the old school "put your spelling words in sentences" to a whole new level and wrote entire stories using all of the words. Playing with words is a skill I have utilized both personally and professionally. From personalized invitations, speeches for special occasions to parodies of songs for friends and colleagues, I am everyone's "go to" to write that something special and I am honored to do it.
