This isn't a new idea, but it's something that I cannot live without in my grade one class of beginning writers! Students bring their word wall to me open at the beginning sound page (ex: page for the word can). I then point them in the general direction of the word (ex: third row), then using the dominant sounds they hear in the word, they match it to a word in that row. 90% of the time students locate it on their own! This booklet file has a simple narrative planning page, and the writing booklet to write the story in! I usually have my students write one keyword in each section of the planning page. Then, I have them generate a sentence using their keyword. Next, they details like adjectives. I find it easier to have them write the beginning, then the ending, then the middle. This is a simple pack to introduce poetry to primary students. It includes acrostic, tongue twister, couplet, free verse, and shape poems.

This package not only helps students practice their writing skills, but it also helps them with a writing topic, preventing writer’s block! Words lists for exciting adjectives and vivid verbs are included to offer them the vocabulary they need to write what they want to say, independently.
