This booklet file has a simple narrative planning page, and the writing booklet to write the story in! I usually have my students write one keyword in each section of the planning page. Then, I have them generate a sentence using their keyword. Next, they details like adjectives. I find it easier to have them write the beginning, then the ending, then the middle. This unit has 50 different word building activities, each with a sorting chart. The letters get cut apart and moved about to create words. When done, students decide on a sorting possibility. I often like to leave the sorting 'open' so that students can independently decide. To model I would copy the pdf page and paste it into notebook so that I can demonstrate on the smart board.

I used this as an inferring activity (my students had previous experiences with inferring). I showed them the page and told them that Rosa Parks was told by the bus driver that she had to sit at the back of the bus, but that Shirley Temple did have to. This is a writing booklet that you can use as a get-to-know-you activity. Students love to share things about themselves, something they know lots about!
