My name is Mrs. Childress, at least that's what the students call me! I have been teaching since 2017 and have taught Pre-K, K, 2nd, and 3rd grades! I love teaching and it has my heart. I am passionate about interventions and teaching children the proper techniques of reading, math strategies, and handwriting. I have taught FrogStreet, EL Education, Eureka Math, Eureka2, Illustrative Math (IM), Amplify Science, Science Weekly, Studies Weekly, and Bayou Bridges. I am definitely a "Teacher of all Trades." “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken adults.” ~ F. Douglas

Teaching style

I am very laid back and I love all the cute, colorful things! Anchor charts have to be so-so, slides, calendar, classroom has to be a certain way with just the right "feel" to it. I am a firm believer in growing children that are socially, emotionally, and academically prepared for the world. I dedicate lots of my spare time into my career. As a teacher, I have faced severe burnout, teacher shortages, a pandemic, moving parishes (schools), moving classrooms (grades & contents), and have had to pick myself up more times than not. I worry about the students with difficult home-lives and pour my heart and soul into those that need someone to believe in them. I tell my students every year "I AM your biggest cheerleader, whether you believe me or not" and it doesn't take them long to realize how true it is.

My own education history

I finished college in 2015 with a bachelor’s in General Studies, then went back and received my bachelor’s in Family and Consumer Sciences in 2016. I obtained my certification through iTeach Louisiana in 2020. In December of 2023, I graduated with my Master’s in Early Childhood Education degree.
