I currently teach a Preschool for All Learners Collaborative Classroom for 3-5 year students on IEPs. I've taught a kindergarten through second grade class for autistic students at a public school. My whole teaching experience has been with under served and under represented populations. Given their special needs and their difficult community and family backgrounds these students’ needs are greater than usual. The students are proud of their multicultural and bilingual backgrounds. They are excited about school and eager to learn each day. My goal is to empower them with the knowledge and confidence that they can learn and succeed despite the many challenges they face.
Here is a fun and quick activity I use to learn a little bit about my students. Its a great tool to help bring students together to find commonalities. You could also use the sheet as a graphic organizer for an all about me writing assignment. Students also love making the figure in the middle look like them. They can do this with crayons or you can shake-it up by using magazine cut outs.

Experience
I currently teach a Preschool for All Learners Collaborative Classroom for 3-5 year students on IEPs. I've taught a kindergarten through second grade class for autistic students at a public school. My whole teaching experience has been with under served and under represented populations. Given their special needs and their difficult community and family backgrounds these students’ needs are greater than usual. The students are proud of their multicultural and bilingual backgrounds. They are excited about school and eager to learn each day. My goal is to empower them with the knowledge and confidence that they can learn and succeed despite the many challenges they face.
Teaching style
I quickly learned that each year can be dramatically different. I have developed a style of teaching that is adaptable/flexible to my students individual needs. I've learned to prioritize those needs and not to sweat the small stuff. My greatest goal is to target where they are developmentally for their academic and social skills. I believe in strong communication with parents, service providers and administration so that they can understand the system, their student and how they must advocate for them. I also believe in making the students aware of their current skills and goals for growth so they can become part of the process.
