About the store

Experience

I have been teaching for 24 years. I have taught preschool, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade. I love teaching my students through being creative and intentional.

Teaching style

My teaching style is both developmental and academic. I think it is key to have a good balance of both. I think children learn best when they are engaged in the learning process. I think colorful and fun classroom are great incentives to learning. I think keeping your classroom, resources, and materials new makes for better learning as well. I teach to the individual child whenever possible and I try to meet my students where they are at. I am strong believer that everyone deserves a chance. I also believe that all children want to be acknowledged and that through that acknowledgement, they will find a voice and their confidence.

My own education history

I graduated from EMU with a degree in social work back in the 90's. I was a social worker for a few years before deciding to go back to school and getting my teaching license. I attended classes at JMU, Shenandoah University and took a few on line courses through community colleges. I officially started teacing in 1997, the same year my daughter was born.

Additional biographical information

I am a Christian. I am a strong believer that everyone deserves a chance. I also believe that all children want to be acknowledged and that through that acknowledgment, they will find their voice and confidence. I am married with one daughter and 4 stepchildren between the ages of 22-28. My children are my life. They bring me more joy than I could ever promise. I love to color, photography and creating lessons for my students.
