About the store
Hi! My name is Rachel and I've been teaching for 18 years now! My first teaching adventure involved traveling to Japan, where I worked for 2 years as an English language assistant in the beautiful fishing town of Kamae-cho. Eager for more adventure and travel, I then moved to Madrid, where I worked as a TEFL teacher for a year. Deciding to fully commit to a career in education I returned to the UK to complete my PGCE teaching qualification. I then worked for 3 years teaching French and Spanish at a school in Surrey. This was followed by 3 years teaching in a specialist languages school, also in Surrey. Ready for new adventures and with my partner in tow, I departed for the Middle East. I worked in an international school in sunny Dubai for 9 years and relished the challenge of leading the MFL faculty. I have now relocated to the UK and have a gorgeous new baby daughter - exciting times!

Teaching style

I created a colourful and stimulating classroom, where I taught with energy and enthusiasm! I have a learning-centred approach and encouraged my students to be active learners. Differentiation is key in an international context and I worked hard to personalise the learning. I coupled games, songs and lively activities with assessment for learning strategies such as peer and self-assessment to encourage my students to be reflective learners.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I organised a yearly International Week, celebrating the languages, foods, costumes and traditions of the students and staff. A hi-light of this was the International Food Court and I loved seeing all the students in their national costumes experiencing new cuisine from around the world!

My own education history

I studied GCSE and A Levels at a school in Devon in the Southwest of England before going to university in Wales to study French and geography. Following three years in TEFL I returned the the UK to complete my PGCE.

Additional biographical information

My husband and I are keen foodies and I also enjoy yoga, pilates, aerobics, walking, international cinema, reading and traveling.
