Use this lab to build a connecting terrarium and aquarium with your students using pop bottles. This reinforces measurement, metrics, ecology, abiotic and biotic factors, water, carbon, and nitrogen cycles, and more! Students will love to watch their biospheres throughout the year as they learn what is required to sustain life.

Students watch "Flush to Finish" to learn what happens to water as soon as it goes down the drain or toilet and is normally forgotten about. This video shows the importance of water conservation, appreciation for water as a resource, and how to keep the water cycle clean.

Students work through the scientific method to practice observations, research statements, hypotheses, variables, and conclusions.They analyze the fascinating scene unfolding in front of them to learn about bonds and equilibrium. You can even relate this to their own lives and why we use soap to wash our clothes/dishes!

This is a research project that allows students to guide their own learning about ten types/forms of energy. It includes a rubric for their presentation and note template for students to complete throughout all presentations! This project is a student favorite and lasts about a week.

This assessment will test the students' knowledge of Observations, Research, and Hypotheses. It narrows in on qualitative vs. quantitative observations, inferences vs. predictions, and independent vs. dependent vs. controlled variables.

Assessment of the geologic time scale, fossils, relative and absolute age, etc.

This presentation allows students to review earthquakes, seismic waves, and faults.

I made a new rock cycle test for my students that I think matches my learning targets better. This assesses the rock cycle and many characteristics of sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks.

Students will review how humans have determined the age of earth through fossils, geologic events, relative dating, radioactive dating, and the exploration of outer space by creating a children's book.

Notes about waves, their characteristics, wave interaction, properties of waves, and the two types of mechanical waves.

Attached are two documents. The first is a spreadsheet of 6 different cities followed by columns for the date, sunrise time, sunset time, high temperature, low temperature and 2-3 websites where information can be found. (This wouldn't load as a preview.) The second is the sheet you see below with questions encouraging students to analyze their data for patterns to learn more about how the globe is affected by Earth's revolution around the Sun.

This power point is great for Smart boards etc. Its slides are linked to the first one so that students can take turns matching vocabulary terms to their definitions. Just like in the game "Memory", students must remember what they have seen so they can make each correct match.

Information about igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks-includes intrusive vs. extrusive, characteristics, and examples of each rock type.

Students test multiple soil samples to determine pore space, porosity, and permeability of each. This can then be used when teaching water filtration.

Test assessing multiple forms of energy and how they can be transferred. Includes questions about potential, kinetic, water, wind, biomass, fossil fuels, and more.

Use live data to help students analyze information using technology! Students can work in groups of two or four to complete this presentation and even be assigned their own tasks!

I have taken the penny lab one step farther to challenge and enrich the lesson for your students. This can be great for honors or gifted students as they learn not just what cohesion is, but extend it to discover molecular structures that cause polarity differences.

Test that assesses students' knowledge of the characteristics and types of protists. This includes the organelles of a protist and their functions.
