About the store

Experience

I am a retired speech/language pathologist with 35 years experience in the schools teaching special needs students with assistive technology needs. My expertise is in Assistive technology including AAC devices and use, alternate keyboards and computer access, and software that promotes equal opportunities to learn for students with physical, mental or emotional problems. I was on the AT task force for the Department of Education for 12 years and taught Graduate level courses that I developed for Etech Ohio during those 12 years.

Teaching style

I work with materials that help students learn to use AAC devices more efficiently and speak English more fluently using those devices. My materials currently use the Unity program that is available in all PRC devices or as an app on the Ipad. These materials that I create help students learn the language and use the devices while accessing the curriculum. I use book and game formats to accomplish this. I have provided training to others in how to do this for the last 20 years in school districts all over northeast Ohio.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Graduate Level instructor of courses in virtual school through Etech Ohio and Schoolnet for 12 years. Published 4 articles on Assistive Technology use with special needs students in Bowling Green State University Library. Presented at or was featured speaker for OSHLA conferences, OCALI conferences, Schoolnet conferences,OSSPEAC conferences, 8 SERRC centers around Ohio, OOTA conferences and in Michigan for PRC.

My own education history

MS from Penn State University, University Park, PA 1978 BS from Brockport State University, Brockport, NY 1977 Additional graduate credits earned from Hameline University, Ashland University, Kent State University in the areas of Assistive Technology and AAC use.

Additional biographical information

I am retired from public school work and do private practice work for school districts needing Assistive Technology evaluation and training for students. I continue to make materials to support those students and wish to share them with other therapists and teachers so that AAC users and other special needs students will have visual supports to help them access the curriculum. I pride myself on being flexible and willing to make any materials anyone needs to help them teach students in their classrooms. I enjoy hearing from colleagues and creating new items.
