Experience

My first teaching experience was in elementary school where I taught for seven or more years. I taught all of the following subjects in elementary school: math, language arts, science and social studies. In addition, I taught art, music, dance, drama, and physical education. In Middle School I taught music, drama, dance, French, Spanish, and language arts for four or more years. As a teacher in high school, for at least eight years, I taught English Language Acquisition, English Literature, Music (Band, Choir, Drama, Keyboard, and Guitar) and also English to Spanish speaking adults.

Teaching style

I really tried to make learning fun and exciting for my students. I wanted them to love what they learned, and I wanted them to acquire knowledge and understanding as they learned. My greatest teaching assets were in developing activities and strategies that would motivate students to love school and to help them learn how to produce quality work that would make them proud of their achievements and abilities. The best I could do as a teacher was to try to inspire my students to become life-long learners. If there were any gaps in their quest for an education, I tried to find these gaps and fill them as quickly as I could so they could continue to grow educationally.

Awards & shining teacher moments

As a student in high school, I received awards in Vocal Performance in Music. I was a member of the Junior City Council in Oakland, California, and I received a 5 year Scholarship from the Mary Ruth Trust Fund that helped me earn my first degree from the University of San Francisco State College. Currently, I have an MA in Music Composition from the University of Denver. Finally, a number of my original songs for piano and voice have been published by a University in Illinois, and also by the Hildegard Publishers.

My own education history

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Education and Liberal Arts from San Francisco State University, and I have a Master's Degree in Music Composition from the University of Denver. Before I received my MA from DU, I studied music at the University of New Mexico, at CU Denver, and at Metro State. My education never stops, I continue to learn new techniques, theories, and innovations each year from my own research and from other schools and colleges. I am now retired, but I spend time tutoring students in Language Arts, Math, and Music.
