There is a plethora of cognate activities out there for recognizing cognates we read, but I noticed my students have trouble recognizing cognates they hear, so these activities were created with that purpose in mind. (other than act. 6 and 7 which were created mainly to help fill in those sub assignments we always need :) Please let me know if you have any questions, instructions are unclear or you notice mistakes.

This activity focuses on the cognates used in 2 pop songs in Spanish - Kitipun by Juan Luis Guerra and Animal by Álvaro Soler. Songs are fun and upbeat and contain a number of cognates and other comprehensible language. The instructions have youtube links to videos of the songs. I do not own the rights to either song.

Board game for students to practice talking about their chores. You will need a die and some type of token for students to use to move around the board. Students will roll a die and move that number of spaces. They state how often they do that chore and then ask the next student how often they do the chore. Students could also react to what others say, such as "No fair! I have to cut the grass every week" or "I never have to babysit my siblings because I am the youngest," etc.

The dice will decide what activity to discuss, and students will tell how often they do that activity. Depending on their language experience, they can add reactions and/or follow-up questions. The question at the top could also be left off and students could discuss whether or not they like these activities, whether or not they did the activity yesterday or basically anything else.
