I have taught science courses in multiple states and levels over the past 12 years. My goal is to have students see the everyday interactions with the world. The more they know the more they care.
Have students review 5.9 Mining CED with this stations slide show. Last slide has extra interactive mining simulations, videos, and Google Earth field trip to the Grand Canyon.
Have students review the issues of Palm Oil and then evaluate its use in their life. A great way to have students research and reflect on their impacts and their choices.
Looking for an alternative to speed dating- have student create Tinder pages. I have students create a "Tinder" based profile page. They answer the prompt questions and then create a profile using the digital format Padlet, where they can swipe/vote. To assess understanding of the chemistry students then write a CER on who is the most toxic. There are many ways to interpret most toxic and I enjoy letting them argue this. (Toxic to their pollutant identify, biocentric, anthropocentric, etc.)
