This activity has students measuring similar triangles to help them understand the meaning of the tangent, sine and cosine ratios. They measure the triangles and find the ratios, then compare to others in the class. Works well with groups of three, with students assigned one trig ratio each. Uses degrees, not radians. Good for basic trigonometry, junior high. I use it in grade 10 as I find they get there and still don't understand what "tan" means or does. Includes a handout for students to
This is a reflective assignment for students to go through. It is meant to be done at the beginning of the school year to set up a classroom of mutual respect. I would do one reflection per day throughout the first week of school. This is based on the Tipi Teachings of the Cree people in Northern Alberta. In Alberta, it aligns with the 3 credit locally developed course, Elder's Chronicles, 7 Grandfather Teachings.
This assignment was created as a way to determine a grade for students learning to smudge with the 3 credit locally developed course Elder's Chronicles: Smudging, LDC1015. It ensures students have met the outcomes.
