About the store
I have been in the art education field since 2004. Teaching shapes and colors to pre-k students, famous artists to elementary kiddos, and sculpture, drawing and painting to high school students has made me a teacher than can think on my feet and that always stays organized. I am an avid learner and find myself constantly experimenting and trying new ideas. I find it imperative to stay an active member of the art community. I use online forums like Artsonia and my own blog to stay connected with other educators and community members. I show in local gallery exhibitions and I am a founding member of the pop up gallery, Pearl, in the Chicago land area. By staying involved in the art community I grow as an artist and I can better inspire and empower my students to strive to do their very best.

Who doesn't need a blank 6 color color wheel? Use it as a worksheet for you students to color or paint to learn primary and secondary colors or use it as an assessment to make sure the class knows there stuff. I personally use it in my classes as a behavior chart. Each class has a color wheel on our behavior board. Classes have the opportunity to earn a color each class. Once their color wheel is filled they earn a reward.

Teaching style

Since entering the art education field I have had the wonderful opportunity to teach a diverse group of students in diverse settings. This has resulted in me developing highly effective instructional methodologies that promote student creativity, mastery of materials, visual literacy, problem-solving skills, and the opportunity for self-expression. I believe that staying innovative and reflective, studying best practices, and creating professional goals helps me to continuously improve my program and inspire my students.

Additional biographical information

Heather went to the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where she stayed up late painting and enjoying life for as long as they would let her stay. She took her painting and art education degrees, got married and bought a 110 year old farm house in the burbs. A loving husband, bouncing baby girl and a flock of chickens share her life as an at-home artist and art education teacher in the western suburbs of Chicago. She mostly paints but dabbles in printmaking and other DIY projects that overwhelm her things-to-do list.
