Keep things relatable to students. Also be creative, while cellphones should be put away, to limit distractions for students, you can use social media templates to fill the void of cell phone usage. This template I use for "Do Nows" or drills. Each phone represents a day/a single drill. You can add lines in them for students to write on. Relate to students interest in social media. Use twitter template exit tickets. The way I describe it to my students, with twitter you have 140 characters to use which is plenty to summarize what you want to share out with your followers; thus, at the end of class we will tweet out a summary of what we learned (in form of multiple choice, t or f, complete sentences, vocabulary definitions, etc) to determine if we met our objective for the day.
