Your students will be able to syllabicate 3 syllable words with the help of this activity. *How to use: Students can practice reading 3 syllable words using their finger to help them find vowels to syllabicate or CHUNK words. 1. Have students cover the ending word-parts with the second and third vowel revealing the first part of the word. 2. Then have students cover the first word-part/first vowel and the last word part/last word vowel revealing the middle word part/middle vowel. 3

Your students will be able to syllabicate 2 syllable words with the help of this activity. How to use: Students can practice reading 2 syllable words using their finger to help them find vowels to syllabicate or CHUNK words. 1. Have students cover the word-part with the second vowel revealing the first half of the word. 2. Then repeat by covering the first word-part and first vowel. Students can apply this method every time they read until they get into the habit of doing it naturally.

How to use: Call out a word from the flash cards. Cover your hand over the segmenting part while just revealing the picture. Have the students use the segmenting mats to segment the word. After the students segment, show them the correct segmentation on the flashcard. For the segmenting mats: Students can point to the dots, use math counters or any other cute marker to put on the dots. I like to change it up every holiday.
