Differentiation equals success for all. Not every student learns at the same rate and has the same abilities. Learning can occur at many different levels, and it is vital that all students grow as critical thinkers, problem solvers, and learners. I offer different levels of tasks and assessments to ensure success for all students and make myself available to help in any way possible. I will continue to research and create new and better ways of allowing my students to reach their full potential and am always seeking innovative ways to help students succeed in my classroom. Not only do I want them to be successful, but I want them to enjoy learning along the way.
I model the importance of education by constantly furthering my education as well. I am proud to have earned a marketing degree, an early childhood education degree, a middle grades education degree, a master’s degree in early childhood education, a specialist degree in curriculum and instruction, and my gifted endorsement.

Clue Words
This is a document that will allow the students to know exactly which clue words are commonly used in algebra and which operation matches those clue words. It is very easy to understand this chart, and it is extremely helpful when teaching translating verbal phrases into algebraic expressions. This is also helpful in lower grades when teaching translating a word problem into a math sentence in order to solve the word problem.

Find the Error - Writing Expressions
This is an activity that I created for my students to find the mistake when written expressions have been translated into algebraic expressions incorrectly. I used common errors when creating the expressions to help them see the mistakes commonly made. I had the students work alone to solve the problems first, and then share with their groups. This is a pdf that contains all four operations as well as equals and switch the order words. The words are inside the shape of the symbol that they go along with. Print these out and put them up in your classroom for the students to look at throughout the year to help them solve word problems and write algebraic expressions and equations.

Math Trail Game - Order of Operations
This is a game I created that allows students the opportunity to practice solving problems in groups that involve integers following the order of operations. Included are problem cards, matching answer cards, student sheet, answer key, and a game board. I have included directions for ways to use this same activity with the math trail game, a matching game, a board game, and stations. My students love playing these reinforcing games!

Fast Food Project - Great for After End of Grade Test
This is a great project to integrate health and science as well as make the students more aware of eating healthier. The students are directed to a website where they create meals and gather information about calories, fat grams, sugar, and carbohydrates. This is very eye opening to them. Rational Number Operations Interactive Notes
This study guide includes everything for pemdas, decimals, fractions, real numbers, operations with integers, clue words, and properties. I use these as interactive note taking for my students at the beginning of the year and refer back to them throughout the year many times.

Plotting Points on a Coordinate Plane - Notes
This is a color coded cheat sheet of the coordinate plane and how to plot the x and y coordinates. It is a necessary skill to develop in middle grades math in order to be successful in algebra. This is a great reminder for test prep!

Algebra Stations using only positive numbers
One of our math units is teaching algebra using only positive numbers. I have always had a hard time finding material using only positive numbers so I created this station activity. Strategies for Using Mental Math with All Operations

Simplifying Expressions Interactive Lesson
This is a power point lesson that teaches how to simplify algebraic expressions. The lesson includes the standard, essential question, a spiral warm up, vocabulary, modeling with manipulatives and then steps, practice with increasing difficulty, and a closing review. In my power points, the answers pop in as you work through. I taught in elementary and middle schools for 30 years. The last seven years I was instructional lead teacher. More recently, I have gotten certified as a behavior therapist working with autistic children.
