Experience

Serving the Teachers Pay Teachers community since 2007 with a variety of free and paid resources, I have been an upper elementary and middle school teacher for 40 years and I have loved every minute of it. For me, student engagement, quality content, academic rigor, and a teacher who cares are the keys to all successful classrooms.

Teaching style

I model my lessons on the idea that more than ever in today's world the focus and direction has to change in the class on a regular basis. Kids need to work hard, but it has to be work they enjoy doing AND that teaches them the bigger concepts that are so important to know as they move through life. The world is changing and ways of learning and working are too, and we as teachers have to help our students master these changes and develop the three Cs: curiosity, compassion, and confidence.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I've served on so many committees and been involved in so many academic and sports programs that I cannot count them all. I have been recognized for my service with many of them, but the greatest honor or award for me is when a student from the past contacts me to tell me that they enjoyed my class and that I had a positive and lasting impact on their life.
