This worksheet provides examples of common writing mistakes, with a focus on grammar. Learners look over these examples and then try finding them in 10 sentences. To do this, they must identify the type of mistake and then write it correctly in the space below. An answer key is provided to facilitate learning.
This exercise requires learners to combine short sentences into longer ones. They do this nine times, and then put together their longer sentences into a coherent paragraph. To accomplish this, learners must make important decisions such as what information should be omitted and how best to punctuate sentences for maximum effect. A sample response is provided in the answer key.
These 10 questions are based on Sherwood Anderson's classic short story "The Egg," which is easily searchable online. The questions test students' understanding of the major elements of fiction -- including theme, characterization, literary devices, and more -- as they apply to the story.
